In loving memory of Richard Main
Richard Main is many things to many people. Most notably; a loving husband to his wife Robyn for over 35 years, an amazing father to his two sons, West and Austin and a passionate physical and health educator to thousands of kids within the WA secondary schooling system in a career spanning over three decades.
As a man of faith and great integrity, Richard lived by strong family values and was a huge proponent of living an active, healthy lifestyle. Following some uncharacteristically poor tennis results (loss of coordination) vs his son, amongst a few other minor symptoms (minor memory fogginess/general daily fatigue) he was admitted to SJOG Murdoch hospital in mid November 2021 and after several phases of testing, received the very probable diagnosis of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD). A rapid decline in mental and physical functionality ensued with Rich passing away just over 4 weeks after being admitted to hospital.
To mark his ongoing legacy, Richard’s eldest son, West and three friends will compete as a team in attempting to swim to Rottnest as part of the annual channel crossing. They will be raising awareness and funds for research into CJD.
